Love always finds a way.... Updated 4/8/14

If they were to write about
The Story of my Life
They would have to mention you
In every page they'd write.......

(A story of Love, told by Bully)
Updated for Nelson's 4th gotcha day 4/8/14.... Originally posted 10/5/10

We had been together all our lives. We grew up together, we trained together, we raced at the same track our entire careers.  We even raced against eachother a few times and when we retired, you guessed it, we retired together.  This coming February we will be nine years old. (update in 2014-we turned 12 on February 12th, and Nelson passed away on March 16th)

When The Momma first heard of us it was September of 2009, we were down in Houston on a farm that was closing.  We were 7 and we needed a new home.  You know how the story ultimately ends, but it was not a direct path that we took to be where we are now, and it was not together as we had always been.

We lived on a farm that separated us at mealtime which was customary.  We didn't like it though, so after we were done eating, Nelson would dig his way under the fence to my side.  They refilled the hole but we had a lot of spare time to re-excavate each time. We think that this deterred people from wanting to adopt us, we seemed to be troublemakers and we were big rambunctious boys who loved to jump!  But we just wanted to be together.

A group called Fast K9's took us in to find us a home. Miss Cat would come to take one of us to a meet and greet at the local petstore every week or so.  She decided whom would go with her by taking whichever of us that DIDN'T knock her over!

But try as she might, there was no home to be found for us there.

After that we went to GALT in North Dallas.  With the horrible economy there was not much hope of us being adopted together.  Fast K9's had already tried.  No one could see two hounds being adopted together when adoption numbers had dropped so low already, so we were to be separated.

This is where The Momma comes in, she came to look at the both of us, she desperately wanted to adopt us both.... Unfortunately a lady from GALT called The Momma while she was there with us to tell her that we both had approved applications to other people.  The Momma couldn't have either of us, she was too late. Sad and heartbroken, she left, but not before telling the lady to let her know if either adoption fell through. Luckily, a few days later she got a phone call saying that Bullys potential adopter had chosen another hound! So, I said goodbye to Nelson, he was to go to another home too.

I settled into my new life, loved my houndie brothers and sister and my new little human sister too. I saw a few fosters come thru and helped show them the ropes.  I celebrated Christmas with my very own presents and I had my 8th birthday party.

I really missed my brother, who wouldn't?  It would be at least 5 months until we heard of him again.

April of 2010 came around, thoughts of Nelson were far from The Momma's mind.  She was still a fostermomma for GALT so when she got a call from Jennifer, the GALT foster coordinator, it was really nothing new.  Miss Jennifer asked her if she could foster for a short while, just a week.  Daddyman was going out of town for 2 weeks though, so The Momma apologized and said it would not be a good time to bring in a new foster.  Plus we had 6 greyhounds in the house already! Just then The Momma got another call beeping in and asked if she could call Jennifer right back....

She finished her call and was about to hit redial when she glanced at her computer and noticed a new email from Jennifer... She clicked on it, curious.... It said that Nelson could find another place to vacation for the week.....

It took a second to sink in.....

"NELSON?????"

The Momma called the lady back as fast as she could.  I guess she was worried that they may find someone else to take Nelson if she didn't call back fast enough!

"If he comes to my house he is never going to leave!"

She was joking though, she thought that Nelson's owners were going on vacation and that, naturally, they would want him back once they came home.  It was then that The Momma found out that Nelson had been returned to the group, he had horrible separation anxiety.

"When is he coming over?"

April 8th, 2010 was the day that Nelson came "To visit". Of course, he was here to stay.
Happy 4th gotcha day my Brother, I miss you so much <3

Here are pictures taken on that very day.... the moment we saw eachother again....We were wearing muzzles because The Momma did not know how we would act towards eachother....

we fell right back into step

Then side by side forever more.....

Nelson still had a little bit of separation anxiety, but it was not so bad when I was with him. We just wanted to be together.....

The Momma is friends with the nice lady from the Fast K9's group that we used to knock over every week. When The Momma told her that we were back together again for good, Miss Cat cried.

Here is a very sweet video that our dear friend Miss Janine Kressler made for us a few years ago..... It is titled
"For Nelson, From Bully"
It touches on a fear that The Momma always had.... that we would not always be together...... The Momma has not been able to watch it since Nelson died :(
